Replacing the BMW mechanical Belt Tensioners with the Hydraulic Type
BMW has superseded mechanical belt tensioner 11 28 1 427 252 to hydraulic version 11 28 7 838 797. We are not going to follow this supersession; however, we have added the parts necessary to do the conversion.
If the car originally came with the mechanical tensioner, and you want to do the conversion, there are 11 additional parts needed. To simplify things we have made a kit which includes all 11 parts necessary to do the conversion. The part numbers are below and there are a couple of photos attached to this email.
11 28 7 838 797 – Hydraulic tensioner w/base plate and pivot arm.
09 0434 001 – Conversion kit which includes the adjusting pulley, bolts, washers, protection caps, dust guard, and a screw.

We will continue to stock the superseded mechanical type tensioner as well as the older style mechanical tensioner.
